ELK GROVE, Calif. – Detectives are investigating the shooting death of a man outside of an Elk Grove home.

Around 9:55 Tuesday night, police officers responded to the 5800 block of Spring Flower Drive in Elk Grove for a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located the victim lying on the walkway leading up to a residence. Officers observed that the victim was had been shot in the head and was unresponsive. The victim was pronounced deceased by medical personnel who arrived to provide treatment. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office later released the victim’s name as Leslie Stafford, a 36-year-old resident of Elk Grove.

Elk Grove Police Department detectives responded to the scene and have been actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. At this time, a suspect has not been identified and the motive is unknown.
