SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A woman has died after a fire ripped through a South Natomas apartment building.

Around 2:15 Thursday afternoon, firefighters responded to a reported structure fire on the 500 block of Wilson Avenue in South Natomas.

When units arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke showing from the one-story apartment complex.

Initial reports came in of a woman trapped inside one of the units. Firefighters immediately began a search of the unit and found the elderly woman deceased.

Firefighters worked hard and got a rapid knock down on the fire.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Sacramento Fire Department. The cause of death of the victim will be determined by the Sacramento County Coroner. Once the victim’s next-of-kin has been notified, their name will be related.
