SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Detectives are investigating the City’s first homicide of the new year that happened on New Year’s Day in South Sacramento.

At 11:36 AM New Year’s Day morning, officers responded for a shooting victim that had walked inside the Taco Bell on the coroner of Fruitridge Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in South Sacramento.

When officers arrived, they found the adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics arrived and transported the victim to the UC Davis Medical Center for treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts by police officers and medical personnel, the victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators were called ot the scene to begin their investigation.

The actual shooting scene was found down the street from the Taco Bell on the 5500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Detectives are actively investigating this homicide, and have yet to release a suspect description or announce any arrests that may have been made.

The identity of the deceased victim will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
