SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Detectives are investigating an overnight shooting that left a person dead in South Sacramento.

At 1:00 Sunday morning, Sheriff’s deputies responded to reported shots fired in the area of 44th Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in South Sacramento.

When deputies arrived, they found a 48-year-old male on the sidewalk who had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Paramedics responded and pronounced the victim deceased on scene.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin their investigation. At this time, there is no known suspect description or motive.

The name of the victim will be released at a later time by the Sacramento County Coroner.

An earlier version of this article said the victim was 22 years old, however the Sheriff’s department later corrected the age to 48-years-old.
