GOLD RIVER, Calif. – Firefighters have contained a grass fire burning near the American River in Gold River.

Just before 4:30 Wednesday afternoon, firefighters responded to a reported grass fire just north of the Nimbus Fish Hatchery along the American River Parkway.

When firefighters arrived to the area, they found a grass fire that had already burned through 2-3 acres, and had the potential to spread to 10-15 acres. The fire was burning in heavy fuels, with some trees catching on fire as well, however there were no structures in the immediate area threatened.

Firefighters called for additional resources to respond to the incident, including a helicopter and bulldozer.

Due to the potential for the fire spread across the roadway and fire apparatus driving in the area, Sacramento County Park Rangers shut down the American River Bike Trail for a short period of time.

The fire was contained in a short amount of time to six acres. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no injuries were reported.
