SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A deceased body found underneath a freeway overpass Tuesday has turned into a homicide investigation.

Sacramento police officers responded around 7:50 Tuesday morning to a report of a female adult found deceased underneath the freeway near Broadway and Alhambra Boulevard.

When officers arrived, paramedics were already on scene and had confirmed that the female was deceased. Initially, officers did not observe any visible trauma to the victim’s body. As a precaution, Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene to collect evidence and search the area for potential witnesses.

Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives could not determine whether the deceased was the victim of a homicide or not.  At that time, the Coroner’s Office responded and took over the death investigation.

On Wednesday, an autopsy of the victim was conducted by the Coroner’s Office.  Preliminary results showed that the victim sustained trauma to her body which appeared to be consistent with being the victim of an assault.

Homicide detectives are actively investigating this case.  No arrests have been made and no specific motive has been established at this time.  Investigators are asking for the community’s help in providing any information they may have pertaining to this homicide.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Coroner’s Office.
