SACRAMENTO, CA – The two people who died in a two-car crash Friday afternoon on Highway 99 have been identified.
Records released by the Sacramento County Coroner indicate the occupants where Tevis Haggard, 67, and Rosemary Haggard, 61, both of Sacramento.
At around 10:20 Friday morning, a gold Toyota Camry was traveling southbound on Highway 99 near 47th Avenue in the #2 lane. From the driver’s rearview mirror, he observed a blue Nissan Pathfinder approaching at a high rate of speed. The Nissan struck the right front passenger area of his vehicle, before it swerved into the concrete center median. The crash with the center median caused the Nissan to roll over and eject the 61-year-old female passenger, who may not have been wearing her seatbelt, before the vehicle came to rest on it’s wheels. The passenger landed in the carpool lane of traffic where she died from her injuries.
The 67-year-old male driver suffered major injuries and was transported to a local area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Toyota suffered minor injuries.
Based on preliminary statements, and the circumstances of the collision it is possible the driver of the Nissan suffered from a medical emergency. CHP says it does not appear at this time that alcohol or drugs where a factor in the collision.
