GALT, CA – Police have successfully ended a hostage situation in Galt after a man refused to leave a home with a child inside Sunday afternoon.

Officers from the Galt Police Department responded to a residence on the 900 block of Glendale Avenue around 1:30 Tuesday afternoon for a report of domestic violence. When officers arrived on scene, they found a woman who had been injured by her husband. The husband had barricaded himself inside the residence along with the couple’s young child. The husband threatened to harm the child along with police if anyone attempted to enter into the residence.

Officers assigned to the Elk Grove-Galt Joint SWAT unit responded to the incident as well as hostage negotiators.

Around 5:10, almost four hours after the standoff started, the husband surrendered and the child was safely taken into protective custody. The husband was checked out by medics due to being shot by a non-lethal bean bag gun and was arrested by Galt Police.

An aggressive dog on the property was taken away by Animal Control officers.
