SACRAMENTO, CA (Florin) – A Sheriff patrol vehicle used by a K9 unit caught fire late Sunday afternoon after a short pursuit in South Sacramento.

After a short pursuit ended on Florinda Lane around 4:15 Sunday afternoon, the driver of the gold Saturn foot bailed and ran from deputies.

When the Sheriff K9 unit returned to his vehicle he requested the fire department to respond due to a fire in the engine compartment.

The fire department arrived and quickly extinguished the small engine compartment fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The patrol vehicle will be towed to the Sheriff substation to be fixed.

The driver who ran from deputies was apprehended shortly after he started running.
