Victim identified in Sacramento City College shooting

SACRAMENTO, CA – The name of student shot to death on Thursday was published today by the Sacramento County Coroner.

Sacramento resident Roman P. Gonzalez, 25, a student at Sacramento City College, was shot to death Thursday afternoon on the southern end of the campus.

Around 3:59 Thursday afternoon, officers responded to the 3800 block of Freeport Boulevard regarding a report of a shooting. The shooting occurred in a parking lot just north of Sutterville Road, on the south edge of the Sacramento City College campus. Three victims were located in the area of the scene with injuries.

One shooting victim, later identified as Gonzalez, was fatally injured and pronounced deceased at the scene. A second victim was injured and transported to an area hospital and is expected to survive. The third victim sustained a minor wound that did not require medical treatment.

Police stated their initial investigation revealed a physical altercation, between two groups of subjects, further escalated when a knife and gun were produced by the involved parties. The involvement of gang activity is not being ruled out.

The shooting suspect is believed to have fled the scene and is described as a male adult Pacific Islander wearing a white t-shirt and beige cargo shorts.
