SWAT callout in South Sacramento leads to one arrest

SACRAMENTO, CA (Valley Hi/North Laguna) – A late evening SWAT team callout in South Sacramento ended peacefully with a man in custody after more than four hours Sunday night.

Police attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle in the area of Franklin Blvd. and Florin Road. The driver of the vehicle fled and a pursuit was initiated. After a short pursuit, the male subject was involved in a vehicle accident at the intersection of Franklin Blvd. and Armadale Way. The subject then ran from the accident scene to a nearby neighborhood where he attempted to carjack a citizen at gunpoint. The subject then ran into another nearby neighborhood. The police helicopter assisting overhead was following the subject and saw him run over to Valley Crest Court, but then lost the subject on the back end of their orbit.

Police immediately established a perimeter around Valley Crest Court. Due to witness accounts of seeing the subject running with a weapon, and the carjacking, police activated the Sacramento Police Department’s Special Enforcement Detail, commonly known as the SWAT team. SWAT team members arrived to the area and after briefing and preparing at a nearby shopping center, arrived on Valley Crest Court to start their search.

While searching a house, a resident of a nearby home on Valley Crest Court called police to say that a sound of shuffling was coming for their garage. The resident had no pets or any other reason why there should be shuffling coming from the garage. Police evacuated those residents and then prepared to search the garage. When police entered the garage, they found the subject hiding inside. The subject peacefully surrendered to police.

Jail records identify the subject as 22-year-old Quincy William Tillman. Tillman was booked on the following charges:

  • PC 664/215 – Felony – Attempted Carjacking
  • VC 2800.2 – Felony – Evade Police Officer-Driving in Reckless Manner
  • PC 29800(A)(1) – Felony – Possession of Firearm by a Felon
  • HS 11350(A) – Warrant Arrest – Misdemeanor – Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substances

Tillman is being held in the Sacramento Main Jail with bail set at more than $1-million.
