SACRAMENTO, CA (Arden-Arcade) – Five businesses were damaged in a strip mall fire Thursday night in the Arden-Arcade portion of Sacramento.

Fire crews from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District were dispatched to a report of a commercial structure fire in a strip mall near El Camino Avenue and Howe Avenue around 8:05 Thursday evening.

When firefighters arrived on scene they reported heavy fire showing from the roof and exterior of a strip mall. Fire officials then called for a second-alarm assignment to be dispatched for assistance.

Around 8:18 fire officials stated that crews had good knock down on the interior fire, with heavy fire still being reporting on the roof.

By 8:38 fire crews reported they had the fire under control and cancelled the second-alarm assignment.

Metro Fire later said that the fire was mostly exterior and in the attic. A total of five businesses minimum had damage, one with heat and smoke damage, with a total estimated loss of around $70,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Arson investigators were called to the scene and met with a citizen who had video of the fire before firefighters arrived.
