Crews from Aerojet Fire and Sacramento Metro Fire responded for a reported explosion at the Aerojet facility off Folsom Blvd in Rancho Cordova Tuesday.

“At approximately 8:21 a.m. this morning, the Sheriff’s Department received a call from the Sacramento Metro Fire Department requesting assistance with a possible explosion at Aerojet Rocketdyne on Aerojet Road,” Sacramento Sheriff’s Department said in a press release Tuesday afternoon.

“Sheriff’s Department and Rancho Cordova Police Department personnel responded to the scene, as well as the Sheriff’s Department Explosive Ordinance Detail. It has been confirmed by Aerojet that one employee sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital,” Sheriff officials said.

According to radio reports, the victim transported to UC Davis Medical center sustained second and third degree burns to a large portion of the body and had to be decontaminated of rocket fuel on scene prior to transport to the hospital.

“A second employee sustained minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene,” Sheriff officials said.

“Detectives from the Explosive Ordinance Detail have determined that this incident has no criminal involvement and appears to be an industrial accident. The Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) has taken over the scene and investigation.”
