Sacramento, CA | Officers observe two subjects in Oak Park vacant home packaging marijuana for distribution.

This was our early, breaking information Saturday evening as this incident was occurring; we were on scene:

“[unconfirmed]: SacPD is taking down a marijuana operation in OakPark. One is in custody and the other is in the house, possibly with a loaded Mini-14. Streets in the surrounding area are shut down. UPDATE: per radio report, officers have entered the home but suspect not inside, only the gun. Officers searching the neighborhood. UPDATE: K9 units followed a trail from the home but it wound up being the trail of the 1st suspect who was already detained.”

We later learned that neighbors observed activity in the vacant home and called police. When officers arrived, they looked in the windows and observed two men packaging marijuana and a gun was on the table.

One of the suspects fled home and was quickly apprehended by officers. It was believed that the second subject was still in the home and armed with a mini-14. When officers and K9 entered the residence, all that remained was the weapon. Officers observed an open window where it is believed the subject made his getaway into the community.

Per Sacramento Police department, “Officers responded to a call of people squatting at the location. During their investigation, they observed two subjects inside who when seeing the officers fled from the location.  A perimeter was established and resulted in the location and arrest of Jarray Birdon, 25. Birdon also had an outstanding warrant.”
