Sacramento, CA | Explosions awakened neighbor to find next door home engulfed in flames.

Just before three in the morning Tuesday, several calls came into 911 for a house on fire with explosions.

“The first arriving fire companies had a lot of heavy fire coming out of the front of the house and roof areas,” Battalion Chief Williams, Sacramento Fire Department, stated.

Williams stated the homes on both sides experienced some charing, but no significant damage to them. There were no injuries and the house was unoccupied. Williams also stated that the incident was under investigation.

Sandra Harris and her husband live next door and were awakened by explosions. “I head the explosion, got up, went to the window and it was just in flames,” Harris stated. “There were flames everywhere and when I liked out my bathroom window there was an orange glow”

The explosions were intense enough to even waken neighbors across the street. “I heard the explosion and looked out my window and flames were coming out the garage window, a couple more explosions and flames were shooting to the tops of the trees,” Skip Hatch stated.

Hatch stated how quickly the first arriving fire crews got there and gained control of the blaze. Battalion Chief Williams noted that if this fire had been after the proposed budget cuts, this fire may not have been stopped so quickly and other homes may have been in jeopardy. The “first in” engine and truck company for that area are slated for significant brown outs given the proposed cuts.
