Sacramento, CA | A severed gas line by work crews forces the evacuation of many homes in East Sacramento Tuesday afternoon.

According to a Sacramento City Fire spokesman, a private contractor working for the city accidentally cut into a 2-inch gas line while laying fiber optic lines near Folsom Boulevard.

A closure of four blocks of the busy roadway from 35th Street to 39th Street is in effect.
Around 20 persons from businesses and residences were evacuated along Folsom Blvd around 3pm.

PG&E crews are on the scene assessing the situation and estimate that it could take several hours to repair the leak.
