The Sacramento Police Department is investigating after two people were shot overnight in Old Sacramento.

Around 1:30 Sunday morning, police officers responded to the area of 2nd and K Streets after callers reported hearing multiple gunshots in the area. An additional caller reported seeing an obvious blood trail in the same area.

While responding, a police officer assigned to the Sutter Medical Center on 28th Street alerted he had a vehicle in the ambulance bay dropping off a gunshot wound victim. The other people inside the vehicle told the officer the victim had been shot in Old Sacramento. Additional officers responded to the hospital to detain the people in the vehicle. Crime Scene Investigators responded to the hospital later in the evening to examine the vehicle for any evidence as well as the victim.

In Old Sacramento, police officers were able to locate the suspected shooting scene in the area of 2nd and K Streets. 2nd Street between L Street and K Street was closed for a number of hours for the investigation. Crime Scene Investigators responded to take photos and collect any evidence found. Police officers also talked to people who were in the area and may have witnessed the shooting happen.

Later in the morning, staff at Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael informed the Sacramento Police Department they had a walk-in gunshot wound victim in their hospital as well who was shot in Old Sacramento. Police officers and Crime Scene Investigators later responded to that hospital to talk to the additional victim and collect any potential evidence.

The police department expects both victims to survive their injuries. At this time, there is no information on any suspects, nor is it known if the shooting may have been gang-related or an isolated incident.
