SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A suspect involved in a Sacramento police pursuit crashed his vehicle Sunday afternoon.

Just after 3:35 Tuesday afternoon, a Sacramento police officer attempted to stop a vehicle in a residential area near Northgate Drive and Potomac Avenue. The initial reason for the traffic stop was unknown at the time of posting. The driver of the vehicle did not yield to the officer, and sped up in an attempt to evade the officer.

The officer initiated a pursuit with the suspect, with speeds initially reaching 30-40 miles per hour in the residential area. When the suspect reached Northgate Boulevard, speeds increased.

The pursuit eventually reached the intersection of Arden-Garden Connector and Northgate Boulevard after going through the Old North Sacramento neighborhood. At the intersection, the suspect crashed his vehicle, which then caught fire. Police officers were able to remove the suspect from the vehicle and then proceeded to extinguish the fire.

Paramedics were called to the scene and transported the suspect to a local area hospital for medical clearance. After being released from the hospital, he will be booked into the Sacramento Main Jail by the Sacramento Police Department, likely on evading and reckless driving charges, amongst others.

The name of the suspect had yet to be released at the time of posting.
